What's involved?

Unit 1 – Introduction to Display Screen Equipment

The first unit looks at what is classed as DSE, the Health and Safety (Display Screen Equipment) Regulations, who is classed as a user, the duties of the employer and employees, DSE workstation assessments, DSE assessors and the health effects of using DSE.

Unit 2 –The Health Effects

In this unit we look at the potential musculoskeletal problems, visual problems, and psychological problems of using display screen equipment regularly. This includes looking at relevant statistics as well as upper limb disorders, back injuries, eye strain and repetitive strain injuries.

Unit 3 – Reducing the Risk of DSE

In this unit we look at workstation set-up, consulting with employees, good posture, working environment, eyesight testing and the DSE user’s behaviour.

Unit 4 – DSE Assessment

In this unit we look at what a DSE assessment is, who can carry out a DSE assessment, the responsibilities of a DSE assessor, definitions of hazard and risk and the 5 steps to conducting a risk assessment.
