What's involved?

Unit 1 – Introduction and Legislation

This introductory unit looks at what manual handling is, why manual handling is important, what legislation applies to manual handling and the duties of the employer and employees in regard to manual handling.

Unit 2 – Manual Handling Injuries

In this unit we look at musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs), work related upper limb disorder (WRULDs), work related lower limb disorders (WRLLDs) and back injuries.

Unit 3 – Approach to Manual Handling

In this unit we look at the hierarchy of measures, what to consider when assessing manual handling, how LITE can be used to assess manual handling and methods of reducing the risks involved within the workplace.

Unit 4 – Manual Handling Techniques

In this unit we look at planning the task, lifting, lowering and carrying, team lifts, pushing and pulling techniques.
