Why should I become a Mental Health Champion?
This one-day MHFA accredited course qualifies you as a Mental Health First Aid Champion. Best suited to those that want to gain a better understanding of mental health, this course looks at how to spot the signs and symptoms of common mental health conditions as well as the practical skills involved in helping someone in need. The course also looks at building a mentally healthy workplace through promoting mental health awareness, combating stigma, action planning and what staff can do to help others.
Who is this course for?
While this course can be attended by anyone, it is particularly useful to anyone who manages or supervises others. Requiring no previous knowledge, the skills covered in this course will allow managers to better understand and fulfil the needs of the people they are responsible for. Learners are also taught how to have those difficult mental health conversations and what can be done to help and support them.
As an Mental Health Champion you will gain:

Course Structure
This course can be completed both online or face-to-face and involves taking part in 4 sessions over 2 days. Each day will start at 09:00am and finish around 17:00pm.

In session 1 it focuses on foundational knowledge needed by a mental health champion and covers topics such as: what Mental Health First Aid is, how mental health and stress effect the workplace, the effects of language, stigma and discrimination, the stress container, frame of reference, the mental health continuum, depression, anxiety disorders, eating disorders, self-harm, psychosis, early warning signs of mental ill health and the effects of alcohol and drugs.
In session 2 it focuses on the practical skills of the mental health champions role to apply mental health first aid. This covers how to approach the person, assess and assist with any crisis. What to do if you suspect the person is suicidal. The skills required to listen and communicate non-judgementally. How to give support and information and encourage the person to get appropriate professional help. What other supports are available. The meaning of recovery and building a mentally healthy workplace. And finally, action planning for using MHFA in the workplace.

How long does the course take to complete?
This course takes 1 full day to complete. Typically courses run from 9:00am till 05:00pm. However, different timings can be arranged for private course. Contact us for private courses.
Will I get a certificate when I finish?
Providing that you complete both sessions of the course, the instructors will sign you off and you will receive your certificate. For online courses you can immediately download a PDF version of your personalised certificate.
How long does the certificate last?
The course needs to be refreshed every 3 years to stay in date.
