What's involved?

Unit 1 – Introduction to First Aid

The first unit looks at the roles, responsibilities and aims of a First Aider, getting consent and the law, contacting the emergency services, first aid kits and recording an incident.

Unit 2 – Primary and Secondary Survey

In this unit we look at what the primary survey is, when and how to carry out a primary survey, how to perform the secondary survey and what the recovery position is.

Unit 3 – CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation)

In this unit we look at how to give good CPR, how to give CPR to children and infants, Hand only CPR, Covid-19 CPR and the use of an AED (Automated External Defibrillator).

Unit 4 – Injuries (Part 1)

In this unit we look at common injuries, their signs and symptoms as well as how a first aider can deal with these injuries. These injuries include cuts, grazes, nosebleeds, bleeding, objects embedded in the wound, shock, fainting, crush injuries, choking and drowning.

Unit 5 – Injuries (Part 2)

In this unit we look at common workplace injuries, their signs and symptoms as well as how a first aider can deal with these injuries. These injuries include burns, eye injuries, head injuries, concussions, broken bones, dislocations, spinal injuries, sprains, poisoning, stings and bites, heat and cold injuries.

Unit 6 – Illness and Health Conditions

In this unit we look at asthma, epilepsy, seizures, diabetes, meningitis, sickle cell disease, croup and anaphylaxis.
