What's involved?

Unit 1 – Introduction to Risk Assessments

The first unit looks at what a risk assessment is, the purpose and importance of risk assessments. It then looks at the definition of a hazard, hazardous event and control measures. It finally looks at who should carry out a risk assessment and the different types of risk assessment.

Unit 2 – Legal Requirements

In this unit we look at what the law requires you to do, the meaning of reasonably foreseeable, key pieces of health and safety legislation and how health and safety law is enforced.

Unit 3 – Conducting a Risk Assessment

In this unit we look at preparing to carry out a risk assessment, the 5 steps to conducting a risk assessment, what should be recorded on a risk assessment and when a risk assessment should be reviewed and updated.

Unit 4 – Deciding on the Control Measures

In this unit we look at how to reduce risk, the meaning of residual risk, hierarchy of risk controls, safe systems of work and general principles of prevention.
