Why should I study safeguarding?

This Safeguarding Adults Level 3 course is for those who regularly work with vulnerable adults. It is primarily aimed at those who take a lead safeguarding role in an organisation, such as Designated Safeguarding Lead, or Deputy Safeguarding Lead, but is suitable for anyone who wants to further increase their knowledge of safeguarding beyond the level 2 course.

This online Safeguarding Adults course is designed to help those who work in a lead safeguarding role to understand their responsibilities within an organisation, keep up to date with the relevant legislation and fulfil their requirement to keep their training current. The course looks at how safeguarding issues can be prevented, safer recruitment, what to do if you see or hear a safeguarding issue, the steps to reporting an issue and how to document a safeguarding concern. This safeguarding level 3 course also looks at what happens after a safeguarding referral is made, the importance of early intervention and protection plans.

What's involved?

Unit 1 – Introduction to Safeguarding Adults

The first unit looks at common definitions surrounding safeguarding vulnerable adults, consent, the key legislation, why safeguarding is important, the role of the Designated Safeguarding Lead, the 6 principles of safeguarding and who is responsible for safeguarding.

Unit 2 – Types of Abuse

In this unit we look at physical abuse, emotional (psychological) abuse, sexual abuse and neglect.

Unit 3 – Other Types of Abuse

In this unit we look at bullying, trafficking and modern slavery, sexual exploitation, criminal exploitation, domestic abuse, radicalisation, honour-based violence, female genital mutilation, financial abuse and organisational abuse.

Unit 4 – The Safeguarding Structure

In this unit we look at the various roles involved in the safeguarding system and their responsibilities, the key methods of preventing safeguarding issues, safer recruitment, whistleblowing and some Serious Case Reviews (SCRs).

Unit 5 – Disclosures, Reporting & Documentation

In this unit we look what to do if you see or hear a safeguarding issue (disclosures), the steps to reporting a safeguarding issue and how to document a safeguarding concern.

Unit 6 – After the Referral

In this unit we look what happens after a safeguarding referral is made, the importance of early intervention, protection plans, and case conferences. We also explore potential concerns, on-going support and helpful resources.
