What's involved?

Unit 1 – Introduction to Safeguarding Children

The first unit looks at common definitions surrounding safeguarding children, the key legislation, why safeguarding is important, the 6 principles of safeguarding and who is responsible for safeguarding.

Unit 2 – Types of Child Abuse

In this unit we look at gaining a better understanding of physical abuse, emotional (psychological) abuse, sexual abuse and neglect.

Slide 3 – Other Types of Child Abuse

In this unit we look at having a better understanding of bullying and cyberbullying, trafficking and modern slavery, child sexual exploitation, criminal exploitation, domestic abuse, radicalisation, Female Genital Mutilation and how it may occur.

Slide 4 – Your Responsibilities

In this unit we look at your role and responsibilities in the safeguarding process, what to do if you see or hear a safeguarding issue, how to document a safeguarding concern, the steps to reporting a safeguarding issue, Early Help Assessments, what ‘whistleblowing’ is and what support is available for you and the child.
