What's involved?
The first unit looks at the basics by defining what is meant by an eating disorder. We will then look some of the potential causes and risk factors associated with problematic eating as well as the related statistics to gain an idea of the impact that an eating disorder can have. We then finish by looking at some of the myths and facts around eating disorders.
In this unit we look at the different types of eating disorder as well as their signs and symptoms, physical health impacts and what its like to experience these conditions in their words. This includes looking at Anorexia Nervosa, Bulimia Nervosa, Binge Eating Disorder, Avoidant Restrictive Food Intake Disorder (ARFID) and Other Specified Feeding or Eating Disorder (OSFED).
In this unit we explore how we can help others through talking about eating disorders. The unit focuses on the practical skills required to have a meaningful conversation, signposting and what to do if the person doesn’t want to talk.
In the final unit we focus on the some of the treatment options available such as talking therapies, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), family therapy and medication. The unit will also look at what recovery and relapse as well as providing a number of resources that can be helpful to you or someone else.
