What's involved?

Unit 1 – The Importance of Health and Safety

The first unit looks at why health and safety is so important, what the benefits are to working safely, the key responsibilities you and your employers have towards health and safety and what can be done to reduce the risk of harm to you and those around you.

Unit 2 – Hazard and Risk

In this unit we look at what is meant by the term ‘hazard’, the main hazard categories, what is meant by the term ‘risk’, what a risk assessment is, ways of dealing with risks and what is meant by the term ‘reasonably practicable’.

Unit 3 – Common Hazards

In this unit we look at the common hazards within the workplace, the potential effects the hazards may have and how these hazards can be controlled. This unit aims to expand your knowledge of the many hazards that can be faced in the workplace such as, working at height, hazardous substances, alcohol and drugs, manual handling and more.

Unit 4 – Improving Safety

In this unit we look at the employer’s responsibilities towards health and safety, what organisations do to manage and improve health and safety, the workers’ responsibilities for improving health and safety and the effect of attitudes and behaviour on health and safety.
