Why should I study safeguarding?

If you work with under 18’s, you have a responsibility to safeguard them. This Safeguarding Children Level 3 course looks at the role of a safeguarding lead, and is suitable for anyone who wants to expand their knowledge of safeguarding.

What's involved?

Unit 1 – Introduction to Safeguarding & Legislation

The first unit looks at common definitions surrounding safeguarding children, the key legislation, why safeguarding is important, the role of the Designated Safeguarding Lead, the 6 principles of safeguarding and who is responsible for safeguarding.

Unit 2 – Types of Child Abuse

In this unit we look at physical abuse, emotional (psychological) abuse, sexual abuse and neglect.

Unit 3 – Other Types of Child Abuse

In this unit we look at bullying and cyberbullying, trafficking and modern slavery, child sexual exploitation, criminal exploitation, domestic abuse, radicalisation, honour-based violence, and female genital mutilation.

Unit 4 – The Safeguarding Structure

In this unit we look at the Single Assessment process, each threshold of the Continuum of Need, Early Help Assessments and Teams Around the Child.

Unit 5 – Risk Factors & Case Studies

In this unit we look at identifying risk and protective factors for child abuse, the short and long-term effects of child abuse, real life case studies and understanding what touch-points are.

Unit 6 – Disclosures, Reporting, & Documentation

In this unit we look what to do if you see or hear a safeguarding issue (disclosures), the steps to reporting a safeguarding issue, how to document a safeguarding concern, and what ‘whistleblowing’ is.

Unit 7 – After the Referral

In this unit we look what happens after a safeguarding referral is made, the importance of early intervention, Section 47, Child Protection Conferences, Child Protection Plans, and Court Orders. We also explore potential concerns, on-going support and helpful resources.
