What training do school staff need?

There is no single training list that applies unchanged to every school employee.

Needs depend on the UK nation, school type, employee role and responsibilities, workplace risks, current guidance, local policies and safeguarding procedures, and applicable insurer, local authority or trust requirements.

  1. Check the current guidance that applies to the school.
  2. Map training needs to each role and its risks.
  3. Add school-specific induction, policies and practical instruction.
  4. Record completion and review needs regularly.

Online Staff Training for Schools: Common Questions

What training do school staff need?

There is no identical universal course list for every member of staff. Training needs depend on the UK nation, school type, employee role and responsibilities, workplace risks, current statutory and sector guidance, local policies and safeguarding procedures, and any applicable insurer, local authority or trust requirements.

Can school staff complete training online?

Yes. Online courses can form part of a school’s wider training arrangements, particularly for awareness, induction and knowledge-based learning. Schools should add their own policies, site-specific information, practical instruction, supervision and assessment where the topic or role requires them.

Does an online safeguarding course replace Keeping Children Safe in Education?

No. In England, Keeping Children Safe in Education is statutory guidance for schools and colleges. An online safeguarding course does not replace reading the applicable current guidance, following school safeguarding policies, school-specific induction, designated safeguarding lead training, safer-recruitment training where required, or specialist and role-specific training.

Is Prevent training required for every school employee?

Not necessarily. Prevent requirements depend on current guidance, territory, role and setting. Schools should check the guidance that applies to them and decide what each employee needs; MoreCPD does not determine an organisation’s legal duties.

Can different school roles be assigned different courses?

Yes. From Starter upwards, the manager LMS supports managing employees and course assignments, so teaching, support, office, premises and catering teams can receive learning relevant to their responsibilities rather than one identical programme.

Can MoreCPD track certificates and renewal dates?

Yes. Team plans include completion records, certificate tracking, expiry information and renewal reminders, with progress and reporting features available through the manager LMS from Starter upwards.

Is the LMS included in the subscription?

The manager LMS is included with Starter, Growth, Business and Enterprise plans. Solo provides one learner with library access, certificate tracking and expiry alerts, but does not include the manager dashboard or team reporting features.

How much does online staff training for a school cost?

Solo is £18 + VAT monthly or £180 + VAT annually for one learner. Starter is £45 + VAT monthly or £450 + VAT annually for up to 10 learners; Growth is £95/£950 for 11–30; Business is £195/£1,950 for 31–75; and Enterprise for 76+ learners is bespoke. Every subscription has a 12-month commitment, and annual pricing equals ten monthly payments.

Can MoreCPD support a multi-academy trust or several schools?

MoreCPD can discuss requirements for organisations coordinating training across several schools, but this page does not promise unverified trust-level functionality or central reporting. Contact the team to discuss the arrangement and the capabilities you need.

Are IOSH and Mental Health First Aid courses included?

No. IOSH and Mental Health First Aid are separate purchases from the standard Staff Training Subscription. Subscriber discounts may apply; contact MoreCPD to discuss the available options.
